Le Cousin de Mahomet is the story of a young Frenchman who gives up his family and his studies for a life of adventure. He found himself a slave in Istanbul, that is to say in Constantinople, under the name of Parisien l'Écolier. Beautiful looking and armed only with a flageolet from which he draws harmonious sounds, he will pass from one master to another and exert havoc within Turkish harems and the seraglio of the great lor d. Le Cousin de Mahomet is an exotic, orientalist, picaresque and libertine novel. An authentic manifesto of the Age of Enlightenment, Nicolas Fromaget is obscurely but brilliantly part of the great current of subversive tolerance, sexual liberation and ideological openness that Will later illustrate, with more happiness, a Voltaire and a Diderot.Fromaget died in 1759 signed several works, but only Le Cousin de Mahomet went down in history, since it was immediately banned by censorship.
